Wahoo Public Schools has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education Award from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding support and commitment to music education. Now in its 27th year, the program highlights school districts and individual schools across the United States for their dedication to music education and their efforts to ensure all students have access to music as part of a well-rounded education.
The award recognizes K–12 communities nationwide and helps strengthen and expand music education programs. In 2026, more than 1,000 school districts and schools, including public, private, charter, and parochial institutions, were recognized for providing high-quality music education.
“The passion and support for music education and the fine arts at Wahoo Public Schools is exceptional,” said WPS Director of Learning Dr. Josh Snyder. “Being recognized as one of four school districts in Nebraska to receive this honor reflects the dedication of our students, staff, and community. We are fortunate to be part of a school system that values and prioritizes the fine arts.”
Dr. Snyder also credited the district’s music educators, stating that their daily commitment and enthusiasm create meaningful learning experiences for students. He recognized Mr. Jason Smith, Mrs. Abby Rood, Mrs. Kelli Mattson, and Ms. Annie von Kampen for fostering engaging and supportive environments where students can succeed. He also noted the important role of families and the Music Boosters in supporting student growth and success in the arts.
Recipients of the 2026 award were selected through a detailed application and review process that examined factors such as funding, instructional time, participation, facilities, and community support. All applications were independently reviewed and verified by WolfBrown, a research and evaluation firm specializing in education and the arts.
